| Donielle's Survivor Story |
| Hello....I
am a 21 year old from Ohio. On May 3rd, 2003, I went to the hospital in
labor to deliver my first baby. After 19 hours of labor, the doctor's
decided that my labor was not going well and did a c-section. Everything
went well....till after they took my staples out. Then a few days later
where they had cut me, it had come open. My OB told me that I had a blood
clot that would have to work its way out. She poked me open to let me
drain. She said that if it did not come out hopefully that my body would
reabsorb it. Well after being in and out of the doctor's and the hospital
for 3 weeks, I was tired of going. So the weekend of May23rd I made the
choice no matter what I was not going to the hospital. Well that Friday
I had increased pain in my cut but it wasn't bad so I didn't think to
much of it. Everytime I changed my dressing I would ask my boyfriend or
mother how it looked. They said about the same. So that weekend, I went
to a car show and out with friends. I said that if it got worse I would
go to the doctor on tues. because monday was a holiday. So Tuesday I woke
up changed my dressing and noticed that it was red and it had been buiring
very badly by this time. So I went to the doctor's and she rushed me in
for emergency surgery. Because by that time I had what appeared to be
a blood blister on my stomach. She explained to me what they would do
but she was going to do it out patient. So after surgery I woke up to
find that I was not going home that I was staying in the hospital for
the next 2 days. They had cut all the infected tissue out and left me
open. The doctors came everyday to clean me and I never felt pain like
that in my life it was horrible. My doctor released me from the hospital
and sent me home. She gave me strict instructions not to do ANYTHING because
my bowls were exposed. Which meant that I couldn't even pick up my daughter
let alone breast feed her because of all the meds. They told me that I
had NF and that I was very lucky that a few hours could have turned out
to make things so much worse.
They never told me where it came from or how I got it just that it was very rare. And that people that get it aren't like me. Now thanks to this site and the stories on here I know what it is, what causes it and that people like me do get it. Also after reading through the stories I now realized how lucky I was... Now is has been only weeks after they reopened me but I go to the doctor lots and had nurses coming twice a day. The opening is almost closed and hopefully I will return to life soon. |
