Donna Batdorff,
Julie, a 2000 survivor of NF in New York,
and Jackie Roemmele |
NNFF co-founders,
and NF survivors, Donna Batdorff of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Jackie
Roemmele then of Niantic, Connecticut, now in New Jersey, met over the Internet in early 1997
when Jackie stumbled on Donna's account of her bout with NF. The two
became friends and joined togtether in May 1997 to form the National
Necrotizing Fasciitis Foundation (NNFF).
In the
years since, Donna and Jackie have worked hard to fulfill
the foundations mission to increase awareness about NF, to educate
the medical community, and to help save lives from this often misdiagnosed,
rapidly fatal disease.

In
November of 2000, the two cofounders published a comprehensive
resource about NF entitled, "Surviving the Flesh-Eating Bacteria:
Understanding, Treating, Preventing, and Living with the Effects of
Necrotizing Fasciitis", through Avery / Penguin-Putnam books.
Proceeds will benefit NNFF. Order your copy.
Donna
and Jackie run the foundation with a group of dedicated volunteers,
all of whom are either survivors of NF, or the spouse, parent or child
of someone who has died. Both women do public speaking, and are hard
at work on outreach efforts regarding
NF throughout the world.
