Comments about the web site: I came in contact with this "killer bug" just this past week and it scared me to death. I'm a nurse and the doctors didn't know what was wrong with my patient untill I copied info from this great web site. Comments about the web site: Within a three month span, I have know of two individuals who have had NF. The first is a family friend who was on his death bed but was given a second chance at life. It is not known how he got the bacteria but he lost no limbs just alot of skin in his lower right leg. The second person is my dad who was hospitalized Sunday, January 3, 1999. At first he was told to have Cellulitis but by Monday he was told he had NF. Doctors tell my dad he is lucky because the bacteria was caught early. He has an open wound which is tended to and is given antibiotics and penicillin. The bacteria was contracted by a small cut in his hand at the Hospital he works for. My dad is not a doctor but does mantenance and repair work for the hospital. We tell him that from now on he should use gloves when doing anything at the hospital, especially since he get lots of small cuts when working. Both my dad and freind are luckly survivers. My dad is fortunate my freind not so lucky but both are here with their families and I thank GOD for that.

Comments about the web site: I got this diease in Feb 98. I lost part of my right leg around the knee to ankle. I also was on life support for 2 weeks fighting for my life. I came out of it in the third week and had my musle along my ankle put over the hole on shin. I also have a scar to my grion where it ate me up. All of my vital organs were shut down during this time. Today all are normal except my lungs, I have to use inhalers daily to breathe. I am in pain all of the time even with painpills. I can walk for short periods of time. My memory is also affected,because of the 90% oxygen I was on for over 2 weeks. I to as many of you who have lived thru it will not let people see it No bathing siut or any shorts. No sex either,because of the scar on my leg and the mucsle put over my shin. I'm embrassed to let anyone to see it and also of there reaction to it. Today I thank God and my family and friends for being there for me,because of there consant talking to me while in a coma. I feel they brought me back to life. I wolud to have anyone contact me for support or just to talk about recovery.

Comments about the web site: My boyfriend, Michael is a NF survivor. This was in March, 1998. It began with flu like symptoms and them what was diagnosed as a "deep vein thrombosis" that developed into acute cellulitis in his left calf. He was extremely sick for a week before he was even admitted to the hospital and at the time of his admission it was only for a few days of IV antibiotics to cure the cellulitis. He spent 18 days in the hospital, had 3 surgeries and was out of work for 6 months recovering. What an experience this was. Not until after he was discharged and recovering at home did we find out how serious this disease is and how close to death Michale was!! Whenever we get the chance, we tell people his story so that they are aware. I have printed off pages from this website and he has even made copies for his co-workers. We are extremely thankfull that he was able to overcome this terrible disease.

I am a survivor to N.F. and today I am celebrating my two year aniversary since this all happened to me. I come here quite often to read the new entries. Hopefully ! Someday there won't be any new entries for me/us to read here. If we all can keep doing are part to help educate doctors, hospitals, family, friends, etc. Maybe someday enough people will know about this awlful and sometimes deadly bacteria that it will be recognized much sooner after we have "picked it up" OR "been exposed to it". Comments about the web site: Last June I came down with toxic shock, on top of that I had a blood clot in my left arm. I was Lifelined to a major hospital thanks to the quick thinking of my doctor. I am doing well now, I am one of the lucky ones, I didnt lose anything. My hip is mishapened, but I am just happy to be alive to be able to be with my kids. Ive been through therapy and a couple of surgeries and I am just now getting back to normal. I may never have full use of my left arm, but again I am just happy to be here. I also just want people to know its just not women that use tampons that get it, I know, I never used them before. I am a rare case of not knowing how I got it. Comments about the web site: There was an article in the Rocky Mountain News recently. It is titled "man survives brush with bacteria. There was a sentence in it that I think NNFF gets credit for. They are definetly spreading the word and God Bless Them. The sentence was "Flesh-eating bacteria makes great headlines but isn't a public health threat and isn't particularly uncommon, infectious disease experts say." I think it is a threat but I agree that it's not particularly uncommon. I have talked to lots of people that know of it and I give this organization the credit. I HAVE A BUNCH OF INFORMATION FOR EVERYONE, AFTER READING THIS. #1 YES, LA doctors was about strep a, the flesh eating bacteria. it was portrayed pretty well, unfortunately very close to the real thing. but it was IMEADIATELY detected, because on tv, the doctors dont have HMO's or a shift change, among other things to distract so many doctors desire to really do a thourough exam, and to really listen to the patient. now as for the people who need the pictures, i have a ton of websites with a ton of pictures, just e-mail me. i found them all when i was doing the research for daddys lawsuit. another thing that i want to say is that so many letters state that the skin detioration has gotten so bad that it needed to be cut away, or they used everything to help the skin -- nothing worked. please, please hear me-- daddy had the strep bacteria all the way from his toes to his crotch, from his fingers to his shoulders, totally to the bone. this is what we did. every day, we lathered him with SILVADINE, a silver based cream used on burn patients. we would wrap him every day with gause, and the next day unwrap him wash it all off( first give them alot of morphine to help with the pain) and use burn sticks to stop the bleading arteries, then re-cream with silvodine, and wrap again. without a snip if skin, daddy healed from bone to brand new flesh PERFECTLY, all the way up and down. although, he still had all four extremities dry rot gangrene, still. he grew back perfect non scared skin. this is an extremely expensive cream, but it is because it contains silver. tom delamar told me it is a natural healer, because silver is a natural antibiotic. he wished they used it on him. i swear, he was perfect again-- demand this treatment--it worked. it will take time, but it worked!!!just make sure you clean and change the bandages every day. daddys lawsuit is going on 6 years now still have no new date. is anyone else suing????it sure would be nice to hear how it is going for you, so please write. i know in chapel hill alone one lawyer has 4 cases on strep. i wish i had a bit of support on this subject. if anyone needs help on this i have collected a ton of info. i have all of the books to check out, and the website addresses. daddys story is at--joe.html thanks to this website. my e-mail address is caketray@aol.com thank you for all being there, and to everyone who lost a limb, be strong. you are still alive to do just that. congratulations for being here. to all those who have lost a loved one, i know how you feel. my heart and prayers are with you. best for all of us in the new year. thank you donna and jackie, and all the volenteers, for being our support system. love to all tracy magliocco

However like many and most of the other survivors I fought for my life. I wish they would have put a bit more emphasis on that part. I feel they did not give the audience that impression. Comments about the web site: I had a breast reduction done in 97. It was very scarry, I was sick in the recovery room vomiting up alot of blood.They sent me home that same day. The next day I wake up and my nipple is black. I am running a igh fever and still vomiting. So I go for my post op appointment, doctor said everything looks fine. So the weekend got worse I was still feeling very sick not knowing what to do with myself. So finally Tuesday was here and I made the decision to see my nurse practtioner. She see's me and prescribed an antiobiotic. I'm not really satisfied, so I go see my Plastic Surgeon's on call doctor since mine was out of town. He also treats me with antibiotics and sends me home. How can I be okay I have a very foul smelling drainage running down my body coming from my nipple that is black. No body has cultured this yet. So I see My Plastic surgeon the next day he does nothing but saysI'm diong very well. How is this possible. I am so sick I can't care for my 2 disabled children. I call him on Friday of the same week, I tell him I m very sick please help me I am dying. He tells me to count my antibiotics and he would see me in his office the following week. By Saturday morning I take my self to the Hospital. They finally do a culture and find out I have Staph infection, gangrene & cellulitus. But now is the hard part They tell me I have to have my nipple removed because they could'nt do anything more to keep it from falling off, it was hanging on by athin piece of skin. So I went from a 38DD to a training size and now I have no nipple. Somebody please open up your heart and Help me, I'm only 25 years old divorced I look like somebody took a butcher knife to me.
