Comments about the web site: Hi! I am a BiologyI student at Picayune Memorial High School. I was assigned a report to do on Streptacoccus A. Your website was fabulous in giving me information and pictures. The only thing it could use is pictures of the bacteria under a microscope. It was a wonderful resource that I will request to my classmates. Thanks for your information!

Comments about the web site: My brother became ill with this disease this past month, but we were lucky in that we did not lose him. Several days went by and we and the health care professionals did not know what was wrong with him. It was very alarming that doctors had no clue about what was my brother's problem. People need to be educated about this disease! I am thankful to have found your website and plan on supporting the cause.

Comments about the web site: Hi, ladies. I never got the forms to fill out for telling my NF story. You can still send them to me if you want: 1190 Balsamo Avenue, Simi Valley CA 93065. I'm finally going to get my shoulder replacement -- maybe. Most doctors are scared to death to touch me, but an ortho surgeon in Long Beach is taking needle aspirations of my shoulder fluids to test for presence of residual staph A infection. First test came back clear. Two more to go. If they're both clear he will replace my shoulder joint to alleviate pain and give me back about 60% movement. If he's successful with the shoulder I might get him to work on my ankle. I'm tired of walking with a brace. Hope all is going well with you. I'm sending a donation tonight. I don't have much, and what I do have still goes to doctors and pharmacies and test labs but I have a little left over. Hope it helps. God bless you both, Shelley

Comments about the web site: I took an interest in knowing about this bacteria because a friend of mine was afflicted with it. She said in the hospital it was referred to as a flesh eating bacteria and I wanted to know if it had a specific name, and how it could cause all the suffering that my friend is going through. She was told she could have lost her arm or even her life. She has had plastic surgery and is going to therapy now for the pain in her hands. The graft on her arm is looking better so I as very very happy for my friend that she is a survivor. Excelsior

Comments about the web site: I just came from the hospital after a visit with my cousin , who is a diabetic. He is about the same age as I am. My birthday was april 8 born in 1936. The person in the next bed has the flesh eating disease according to my cousin, John Hartman. John has diabetis which caused a lack of oxygen to his heal . The heel flesh rotted and had to be removed. The surgeon cut a piece of the muscle from the arm and transplanted it by plastic surgury to the heel. The vien from the crotch area to the heel was inverted and sown back in place to allow oxygen laen blood to reach the plastic surgury site. It shuld be alright and then they can proceed to the other leg and do the same thing . john has been i n the hosital for over a month. The person in the next bed just came in with the flesh eating disease after a fall in the local school gounds while playing ball. The fall and the diabetis complications seem to have caues similar results.

I came upon this site while researching NF for a school project. I am in grade 10 and have been interested in this subject since two years ago when I first heard about it. Comments about the web site: I found this site "accidentally" when I was trying to figure out exactly how to treat a huge blood blister that I got on my toe from playing basketball. By now, I have read most of this whole site, and I have learned much more than I ever knew about this terrible infection. I was also touched by the stories of the survivors and those who were not fortunate enough to escape with their lives. I am also much more aware of the precautions I need to take with my blood blister (a SMALL inconvenience when compared with the effects of NF!) in case it pops to reduce the chances of further infection. With all the cuts, bruises, blisters, scrapes, mosquito bites, etc. that my active lifestyle brings to me, I always seem to have some opening in my skin. I am glad that this site has made me more aware of one possible danger of not taking care of my small wounds. Before I saw this site, I was never too concerned about wound care, but now I think I'll do a lot better about it. I don't think it's an overreaction; after reading the stories here, I see that it can happen to anybody and (pardon the cliche) it's better to be safe than sorry! Thanks for all of your work on this site, for the support system you provide for NF victims and their loved ones, and also for the education you give to everyone else. It would be interesting to know how many lives have been (and will be) saved because someone saw this site...

Comments about the web site: Im very impressed with your web page. Im happy to see you have the information and true stories so people can learn about this deadley bacteria. My daughter died March 13th, sprained ankel... Well thats what they said in the emergency room. She came home Tuesday and died friday. The autopsey showed Strep and a fatally deteriorated heart. I feed her dinner friday and she said she felt better and the swelling had gone down in the ankel. I was calling 911 at 1:30am while giving her CPR ...........she was pronounced dead at 2:08.If I had known the symptoms of Strep, she may have lived. I hope many people read your page and become more informed about this killing bacteria. I miss my daughter very much, she was my best friend!! Comments about the web site: I also survived NF and have recently celebrated the two year mark of "life after". This site has brought so much information, support and contentment to me over the past 1 1/2 years. Donna and Jackie, thank you for continuing to create a place where people can truely understand and sympathize with each other the numerous challenges this disease can cause. I too was not diagnosed soon enough and as a result lost extensive tissue and some muscle. It has been a long road to recover physically, but even longer emotionally, as so many of you know. I thank God each day for the blessings he provides. It is very important to me now to live each day to its fullest and love those around me so unconditionally. Life can be taken away so quickly. I know God's love will be with each of you as you continue with your lives. I live in Lubbock, Texas and even though we have the largest medical community in northern west Texas, the doctors still are very lacking in their information and diagnosis of NF. I have pursued a lawsuit and today was told by the lawyer that the case is too iffy because it is such a rare disease and that I am basically recovered and alive. She noted that the doctors would probably instead be praised for giving me such quick attention after my mother rushed me to the hospital 5 days after I saw the doctor complaining of a pain in my leg that there was no reasonable explanation for. He did a Doppler, said it wasn't a DVT and sent me home. I was 35 weeks pregnant with twins, you would think an OB/GYN would be more concerned. I would be gratful for any advice or information that could help me decide what to do next. My time is almost up. I am returning to teaching in Aug. after two years off and look forward for the opportunity to continue informing people of this disease. God Bless all of you and again, thank you for a great site for info and support for all.
