| My
mother died from NF in a very short time. She had various medical issues
including Lupis, high blood pressure, and ranaults disease. We believe
she contracted NF through some of the open sores she had from a persistent
rash which she scratched continuously. Mom was a caring person, very independent
and very creative. She wrote many poems and short stories. She was in
pain continuously due to the lupis and worn out hips and knees. Due to
the rash however, she could not get replacements. So, we were trying to
get rid of the rash. Mom noticed swelling in her upper leg on a Monday.
She removed her wrap on her leg (for swelling) thinking it may be too
tight. That evening we checked in to see if the swelling had gone down
and it had not. We told her to call if the pain or swelling got worse.
One hour later she called and asked that we take her to the hospital because
of the pain. The local hospital treated for the pain and swelling did
some blood work. The tests evidently showed many abnormalities and she
was immediately transferred to a different hospital within a couple of
hours. Upon arrival to the new hospital she suffered respiratory arrest
and was place on a ventilator.
Long story shortened, she died 16 hours later. My hope is that people become more aware of this disease and the warning signs. Early diagnosis is the key to survival. |
