George William Mathers
1944 - July 29, 2006

My Grandy George William Mathers 1944-2006 suffered from necrotizing fasciitis in 2006. He died on the 29/07/2006 when his symptoms and pain only began to occur on the 26th. The first signs he felt was a pain in his lower back, in which he thought he had just pulled a muscle at the gym. However he started to get a high fever and unable to sleep and the pain in his lower back worsened. We then phoned the call out doctor who examined him and said it was just a fever (which seems a common diagnosis from what I have heard) and the doctor prescribed some pills and that was it. The second day my Grandy could barely move and the pain was so unbearable, he also found speech hard because of the pain. Another doctor was called out and diagnosed it as shingles and didn't bother to check the bruising and colour change of his lower back. It was on the 29th my grandy was rushed to hospital and there he died due to medical negligence. He has left behind his mother of 93, it is sad when a mum outlives their child in any circumstances, his wife, 3 children and 8 grandchildren. It seems to me so strange how doctors never want to think the worst and immediately test for necrotizing fasciitis, instead they diagnose it as everything else. To whomever reads this thank you for your time, I hope no one has to suffer the medical negligence that my grandy did which lead to the loss of his life.

Rest in peace Grandy
your ever loving grandson
