Duane Preston Gooding
June 9, 1953 - June 30, 1993

Duane was "40" and was VERY athletic. He was a Wonderful Husband, Daddy and friend. He never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone! He was playing 3-on-3 street ball in Dallas,TX ...towards the end of the weekend he started complaining of a pain in his leg ...we made it back to Tulsa,OK...and he continued to feel bad. I took him to the emergency room (where the ER doctor missed diagnosed him) telling us that he had PULLED A MUSCLE in his leg! They sent us home with pain killers and telling him to elevate his leg (which are BOTH the wrong thing to do!). Approximately four hours later I was taking him back to the ER only this time I WAS NOT LEAVING!!! It went from bad to worse!! He passed away 30 hours later leaving me (his wife of 14 years) widowed at 30 and two small boys (ages 3 and 6). As the years have gone on we have survived but I continually think of him and the pain he endured (that could have been avoided) had they of diagnosed him properly in the first place!

I would love to support a bill requiring that there be MORE EDUCATION on this disease and better AWARENESS! The kicker to the story is that the week-end before we went to our hospital there had been a seminar on "WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN THIS DISEASE AND HOW TO TREAT IT!!!"

In Loving Memory of
Duane Preston Gooding
(My Love since I was "15")
