| My
name is Sandi Wodarczak and my mom died of NF on March 24, 2007 at 4:30am.
She was diagnosed at approximately 4:00am on March 23, 2007. She had her
first surgery at 6:00am on March 23, 2007 and the surgeon called me at
8:24am with the news. When she left the first hospital is was an infection
that needed to be drained and they wanted a cat-scan, so when the call
came the next morning, I was overwhelmed. We went to the hospital, saw
my mom, she has heavily sedated, but still trying to talk to me. We looked
at each other. I spoke with the surgeon at noon and he told us that he
got it all, IF there was another surgery it would be on Monday. There
would be an extensive reconstruction, she would be transferred to a burn
hospital, plastic surgery and a very long and hard recovery. We visited
some more, left to go home and get some sleep, with every intent of coming
back on Saturday. I received at call at 10:00pm, March 23, 2007, another
surgeon said they found a couple more spots and they were taking her back
to surgery. I asked if the family needed to come up, he said no. I received
the final phone call at 12:25am, March 24, 2007, come to the hospital
now. The surgeons said that they couldn't cut fast enough. My mom came
straight from the O.R. back to CCU and died with my arms around her at
4:35am. I'm so lost, my dad and sister are so lost, her friends are so
lost. This was a big shock to our community - everyone is in disbelief.
I'm finding myself using the words "freaky" and "unreal"
all the time. I miss my mom! |
