Alan Dean Daniels
February 2, 1960 - March 13, 2003

My husband, Alan Dean Daniels suffered from NF. He thought he had a cold then I noticed his leg was swollen so I took him to one hospital and they said there was nothing wrong and gave him pain meds and sent him home. Seven hours later I took him to a different hospital and after their exam they notice a little pin point opening on his upper thigh in the back and very noticeably discolored. They showed it to me. They called in a team of doctors. They told us that they had to take him to surgery and that he would probably loose his leg. At this point I didn't care if he lost a leg I just wanted my husband better. I can't even remember how long surgery was we were all just in another world of "this is not happing". They brought him out and took him to his room and the doctors told us his chances of survival were slim, sadly he passed away 7 hours later at the age of 43. This was very hard for myself and our children and his mother. He is still very much missed and we will always wish he was here. I just hope that one day this disease will be better known and have more survivor stories. This disease needs to be known.
